When you walk into an animal shelter or look through online adoption listings, it’s easy to feel drawn to the sweet-faced puppies and kittens. But for every adorable puppy or kitty, there are countless pets who get overlooked. 

Usually, these are older animals, pets with medical conditions, or those who look a little different. If you’re looking for love, loyalty, and gratitude, it might be the perfect time to adopt a less adoptable pet.

These so-called “imperfect” pets often wait months—or even years—for a forever home. And yet, they have just as much love to give (if not more) than their younger shelter mates.
